Bird and Shell Hunt!

Let the search begin…

This is your chance to try your hand at searching the Coastal waters for native birds and shells. Hundreds of different species of birds fly our skies and hunt for food in our waters. Search for all of the birds on our birding list and become a true Birder! As you walk along the beaches in the Coastal Bend, you will come across many different types of shells. Can you find and identify all of the shells on our list? All of this just for YOU to have some fun and show your family and friends how smart you are!

On your mark, get set, HUNT!

Wonders of Estuaries!

Let the building begin…

Estuaries are a key factor for the Coastal Bend environment. They provide food and shelter for fish and animals, serve as breeding grounds, harbor the Port of Corpus Christi, filter our waters, protect the land from erosion, and help to “soak up” flood waters.

The ‘Wonders of Estuaries’ is an activity that involves building a working estuary model. The activity demonstrates and focuses on how the Coastal Bend’s estuaries work and also how they benefit the local environment. With only a few supplies that can be found around the house, you can build your own working estuary!

Estuary Button!

Let the designing begin…

It is important that everyone knows the importance of the Coastal Bend bays and estuaries. Review the lessons learned from ‘The Wonders of the Estuaries’ or other lessons learned about estuaries from the website and decide on a common slogan and/or design that attracts interest and reflects the importance of estuaries such as “Protect Our Estuaries” or “Save Our Estuaries” or even a picture of a bird or fish commonly found in an estuary’s environment. It’s easy and fun but most importantly, you can be as creative as you want!
